The Tarchon Energy interconnector is aimed to provide a range of economic and environemental benefits. Read more about them here.
Tarchon Energy represents a GBP 2.4 billion investment that will create significant economic benefits in both countries through a variety of supply chain and commercial opportunities. Building the project will create hundreds of jobs during the multiyear development and construction phases and enable British and German workers to develop skills and expertise in a growing global industry. Additional jobs will be created once Tarchon Energy becomes operational.
By increasing choice and competition in the British and German electricity markets, Tarchon Energy can help stabilize and even lower prices for consumers and businesses.
By facilitating the integration of renewables, Tarchon Energy will produce a net reduction in carbon emissions of 7 megatonnes between 2030-2054. That’s equivalent to taking 140,000 cars off the road every year for 25 years!
Tarchon Energy will directly link the British and German grids, carrying enough electricity to power up to 1.5 million homes and increasing the resiliency and security of the electricity supply.
Interconnectors use proven, reliable technology and play a key role in making electrical grids more flexible and efficient as the needs of consumers, businesses, and industry change and evolve.
Tarchon Energy is designed with the future energy needs of British and German consumers, businesses, and industry in mind. It is anticipated that the project will be completed in 2030.
